romper_mist_deer_LS_image_lrgtbnl

  1. Brand new dress designs and colours! We have three brand new prints and colours and we’re bringing back a few classics as well. We can’t wait to release these to our amazing fans… We’ll be taking pre-orders at the end of May!!!
  2. One of our amazing new dresses will related to a cause that we believe in. We’re not quite ready to reveal it. But we will say that it related to the health of our ecosystem and our environment, and related to the endangerment of a specific animal that is vital and must be saved. From each sale of this specific style of dress, a portion of the proceeds will go to a non-profit organization in support of this fight.
  3. We have a few great cross promotions that we hope to get off the ground for the summer. We are constantly trying to bring in value to add to our brand and sometimes that comes in the form of relationships with other like minded companies. Stay tuned for a great value-added bonus in the future.
  4. Our new styles have flown off the shelves. Our Rompers and Sleep bags are already on reorder. Thank you all for the amazing support.
  5. A few staff notes: We have hired a great new social media lead that we hope will bring a new level of engagement with our fans on all platforms. Stephanie has been an amazing addition to our office as she moves into her sixth month with the company, she’s the most organized person we know! Devin has just finished his 3rd year at Ryerson University and will be making some amazing instructional videos for our products this summer, as well as taking a month long trip to Los Angeles to take some courses at UCLA! Owner, President, CEO, Doer and Dreamer, Holly plans to spend more time with her kids this summer while still running every facet of the business. DC offered her the role for Wonder Woman, but she turned it down. :)

71m-JCBVjtL._SX522_All in all, Wee Urban is very excited for the summer ahead! We hope you will continue to join in our crazy, Canadian made fun for years to come!

Slider_TO_grandopening

Here are three reasons why we love West Coast Kids, and why you should too!

Selection

I challenge you to find a quality product that West Coast Kids doesn’t carry online or in store. Wee Urban ourselves are in every single West Coast Kids store! Other brands that they carry range from stroller, to car seats, to bedding, to clothing. Everything you need is at West Coast Kids. Including Wee Urban, did we mention that already?

Family Mentality

West Coast Kids is a family run store. E-Children was started by Marsha Dashefsky almost 40 years ago in Winnipeg. In 2007, they went ahead and opened up the mammoth that is West Coast Kids today. With Marsha’s daughter Robyn, fully on board, the flagship store in Richmond started to produce the quality service, advice and products that we all are accustomed to. No matter how large West Coast Kids has became over the last 8 years, the family mentality comes through in their commitment to provide a great service and to keep the best interests of their customers above everything else.

Charity

Not the charity you’re currently thinking. What I’m referring to is the often misused version of charity, which really should just mean, “giving back”. Whether it’s through giveaways (like the one they ran with us in Mid May) or DOTD’s (Deal of the days) where they give 25% of a selected product in their stores and online. WCK is constantly giving back to their loyal customers! Not only is their gear amazing, if you pay attention, it could be free!

West Coast kids is currently offering free shipping on orders over $49.00

You can find our sleep bags in store, and right here

Thank you West Coast Kids for being such an amazing supporter of Wee Urban over the years!

And thank you to all of our fans. We promise to continue to bring you quality products, and be associated with quality stores and people.

That’s right kids! We’re participating in a giveaway for the ages with our friends at Nook.

We are so excited to be included in this giveaway that promises to bring the best of Wee Urban to the forefront.

We are giving away a lifetime supply of sleep bags… Meaning a 0-6, a 6-18 and an 18-36! You will never have to buy a sleep bag for your son or daughter if you’re lucky enough to win this prize. So you better enter, and enter now!

But if you’re stubborn, like myself, and need more incentive to spend your time wisely… I’ve put together a list and description of all the other brands participating. They. Are. Awesome.

nookNook

Well first, we need to highlight our hosts. Nook Sleep Systems are at the top of their class in terms of bedding for our little ones. They are so great, that I’ve asked them multiple times to make me a bed to nap on at work, unfortunately, my boss won’t allow it, and well… they’re a bit small! But they are perfect for your little one. Check out all the styles by clicking here.

Our favourite product is the Pebble Pure – Pacific, I’m partial to the colour, but every product from Nook is the same… AMAZING. So you can’t go wrong… However, we may have picked the Pacific colour because we may have a Pacific coloured sleep bag on the horizon… Who knows? Definitely not me.

AirflowGreyBlackOtherPic

Lillebaby

Another friend of ours from our home country, Lillebaby is an industry leader in Toddler Carriers. They blend amazing functionality and durability, with a unique and comfortable style that we have yet to see matched. Carrying the babes around isn’t the easiest thing in the world, wouldn’t you want all the help you could get? If the answer is yes, click here.

Our favourite product is the Airflow, because Devin sweats, a lot. If there’s a product that will allow me to be cool when I have another human attached to my body, I’m all for it.

puj

Puj

Keeping everything clean is tough. Puj… is there for you. Their slogan is “Simplifying Parenthood” and they’ve succeeded in doing so. Whether it’s bathtubs for the baby, towels for the toddler, or cups for the kids, Puj is there to make everything simple, and keep everything clean and tidy. Find out how here.

Our favourite product is the Puj Snug… Safety is imperative and this product stylishly covers up all bathtub taps at a very reasonable price. It is a truly amazing and innovative product.

infant-kickee-pantsKicKee Pants

Any essential that you need, KicKee Pants has it. Much like Wee Urban, they offer a wide variety of apparel that is stylish, comfortable and affordable. If your kid rocking some sweet style isn’t enough, there’s something there for the mama’s too! Check out their full line here.

Our favourite product is the Swaddling Blanket in Oasis Monkey because we honestly miss our monkey print, and we haven’t found something new to do with it… so we’re just glad someone else is showing some love to our primate friends.

IMG_3931

Little Unicorn

This amazing brand has some of the sweetest modern style we’ve seen yet. They’ve taken some old school ideas and gave them new school flavour and it’s adorable, functional, sustainable and price conscious. It’s almost unbelievable how much we love Little Unicorn, almost unbelievable as a Unicorn… See what we did there?

Our favourite product is the Marindale Backpack, you can’t go wrong with this bag, from the style, to the comfort to the protective iPad pocket, it’s everything you need in a diaper bag that looks nothing like a diaper bag.

28758782_211613_full

Natursutten

I mean if the animated website homepage doesn’t get you excited enough, our love for their products will. Three Words: Natural, Rubber, Pacifier. Every parent wants nothing more than peace of mind at all times when looking after their kids. With Natursutten, you no longer have to worry about the chemicals that are in your baby’s mouth, they are natural, organic, tried and tested.

Our favourite product is the Butterfly Pacifier, with a little more room for the nose which means there’s more room to breathe, the babes is less likely to reject the pacifier, unless we’re talking the Vin Diesel movie, then everyone should reject that…

boon_giveaway500

Boon

Universal Sippy Cups! Are you kidding? Where were these when I was a kid, man, I would’ve escaped so many awkward “carpet is now the colour of fruit punch” situations…. These are brilliant! Boon makes them responsibly, and they fit over most cups. Now If only they would make an adult version for a beer glass… hmm…

Our favourite product is the Suds bottle washer… Washing bottles can be a challenge if you don’t have the right tools. This is specifically designed to make it easier, what’s not to love?

logo

Fridababy

Fridababy is a leader in the industry of keeping your kids healthy and reducing the stress of when they are sick. From snotty noses to coughs and fevers Fridababy has a remedy, and they are inventive in how they get it done.

Our favourite product is the FeverFrida because not having to wake your kid to check their temperature is probably the coolest thing we’ve ever heard of. Using the power of Bluetooth (oh technology!) this product is able to check a baby’s temperature every four seconds via a small patch underneath their arm. It is amazing. Check it out.

Here’s the instagram links to every brand participating.

Alright folks, if you’ve made it all the way down here, you’re a champ, and you’re now educated on some of the best products out there. I’d give you a little bio about Wee Urban… but I think you know who we are, so then I’ll just say that we may, or may not, have a brand new line of dresses coming very soon, as well as new Cozy Basic prints and colours. Ahh, don’t you just love Spring?

FTD – For The Dads – Devin’s Top 5 Beers for St. Paddy’s Day

st-patricks-daySt. Paddy’s is just one of those holidays that really needs to happen on a Friday or Saturday… Don’t ya agree! Well we’re all adults here, so let’s cut to the chase. There’s nothing like an ice cold beer, (or glass of wine, if you’re classy) after a long day with the kids. For me, considering I don’t have kids, let’s call it a long day with my dog, who whines and needs to go outside far too much, and is afraid of the rain, and snow, anyways.

Sometimes you just need a cold one to take the edge off and properly relax. So in the spirit of St. Paddy’s day. Here are my Top 5 Beer choices. We get a little classy, we get a little sassy, and we’re always tasty.

bud-bottles

Budweiser

Ahh, the old classic, the King, as they say. I once heard a comedian say that he doesn’t drink Heneiken, because when you’re at a bar and have had a few too many. “Heneiken” is just too difficult to articulate, so, that’s where Budweiser comes in. Whether you’ve had 2, or 20. You can always say, “Bud”. It’s perfect for St. Paddy’s as it couples a decent flavour at a great price point. But watch out, because Bud is brewed with rice, instead of wheat, the next day headaches are killer… Of course, a trade off most of us are always wiling to make.

clear2.0_2

Sleeman Clear 2.0

Maybe not what you thought was coming, but definitely an option. I’m a fan of strong, crisp beers, but if you’re looking keep the pounds down and not feel bloated from a night of increased hydration, this is by far the best low-calorie option. It still maintains that crisp Sleeman taste, without making you feel like a hot air balloon. I’ve heard many guys say that they don’t want to touch these types of beers, but listen, it does the same job, and if you feel cleaner doing it, then jump right into it. After all, they all taste the same after a while anyways…

MOLSON COORS BREWING COMPANY - Coors Banquet

Coors Banquet

I guess we can call this the College Beer. There’s just something about Coors Banquet that makes me feel nostalgic, and it is the only beer that I prefer in a can. Call me crazy but I’m not a fan of Coors Light, but the Banquet understands me. It’s golden can, and even more golden taste, make me feel like I’m in Los Angeles watching the Kings beat the Capitals (true story), or I’m back at home, in my childhood bedroom with my mini-fridge stacked with little golden babies. Plus, I personally think it tastes great, and a good can option is always better than a bottle when travelling.

ML Can with Glass

Miller Lite/MGD

Like I mentioned, I’m not a huge fan of light beer, thankfully, I am a fan of Lite beer, (see what I did there, spellcheck is saying it’s spelled wrong) Anyways, Miller Lite is finally in Canada, and that is great news for anyone who likes light beer with good taste. It goes down smooth and easy, and is incredibly affordable. You won’t know what hit you. An honourable mention must go out to it’s ancestor… MGD, those clear bottles, they are just beautiful. Aren’t they?

Guinness-original-logo.svg

Guiness

Well, it’s not St. Paddy’s without being genuinely Irish… and there is nothing more Irish, other than Potato’s, than Guiness. It is probably the only beer I’ve ever enjoyed that I cannot see through, and to honour its tradition, and to not hurt my pocket book, it is a St. Paddy’s only beverage. It doesn’t matter what you’re drinking on March 17th. You have to at least pour one of these out for ol’ St. Patrick!

This beerly beloved blog is brought to you by Wee Urban’s own, Devin Sarges. A constant supporter of the Toronto St. Pats/Maple Leafs – I know. I really do know.

Baby Brushing: Good Teeth Tips Your Toddler Should Learn

Let’s face it. Toddlers can be fickle creatures, and some more so than others. When it comes time to teach them how to brush their teeth, many parents feel like a battle with Goliath would be easier than getting their little one to open wide and keep those new teeth nice and clean.
The important thing to note is that dental hygiene is an important part of your child’s development that should begin early on, from the time their first tooth comes in. The two rows of baby teeth that develop in toddlerhood are place holders for adult teeth. According to a Health Centered Dentistry in Anchorage AK, without proper hygiene and dental upkeep, decay and poor formation can lead to difficulty chewing properly and speech problems. This is why implementing a routine and encouraging tooth care should be done as soon as your child can begin to understand.
Wiping gums after meals and before and after bedtime are precursors to the real deal. Once it comes time to begin teaching your toddler how to brush their teeth, there are a few tips you can try out to make the process fun for them, and easy for you.

Let Them Pick Their Own Toothbrush
New routines like teeth brushing can be off-putting to toddlers because it’s such a foreign concept. You can make them feel like they’re in on the whole thing from the start by letting them pick out their own toothbrush or toothpaste. There are plenty to choose from nowadays that sport the latest and greatest TV and movie characters, so your little one is bound to find the right brush for them.
As a parent, though, make sure that the brush has soft bristles and isn’t too big for them. Allow them to choose from the children’s section of toothbrushes and toothpaste specifically and ask your dentist if you’re not sure which would be a good fit for them.

Be an Example
Stress the importance of brushing teeth after meals, before and after bedtime, and before you leave the house. Children look up to their parents, so hearing you say things like, “Oh! Wait! I can’t leave until I brush my teeth!” will make them want to follow suit. If they’re adamant that tooth brushing is the bane of their existence, they may not show much interest at first, but keep encouraging them and you should begin to see results.

Take Turns
When you introduce brushing, show your toddler how it’s done first and then let them try on you. Reverse the roles and demonstrate on them as well. You can allow them to practice on their dolls or favorite stuffed animals to keep the idea minty fresh in their minds.

A Family Affair
Have both parents and any siblings make a big deal about brushing their teeth. Your toddler will want to join in on the fun, and you can begin to teach them the importance of brushing gently and thoroughly. Be sure you show them how much toothpaste is just the right size for their tiny teeth, even though you should never allow them to use any of it alone, or leave them unattended while brushing. Keep everything stored out of reach when it isn’t time to brush.

Lastly, have patience. Speak with your child’s doctor if there are any major challenges getting them to brush, but don’t be too hard on them. Patient persistence is key, and encouragement will always be more effective than scare tactics. Over time, you can instill good hygienic habits that your toddler will grow up with, and will keep their smiles happy and healthy.

Six Often Forgotten Tips for Baby-Proofing Your Home

Take a look around your home. Virtually everything you see lying around will either become your child’s chew toy, or a potential hazard if you are expecting. While infants who have not developed an ability to crawl or toddle are not capable of getting into much unless it is placed at arm’s length, babies develop faster than you might first expect. You may not be worried about baby-proofing when you are in the daze of exhaustion after your newborn comes home, but fast-forward to 6 months down the line, and your little one will be all over the place and into everything.
Many parents baby-proof as they go, but will overlook some very hazardous areas in the home that need prompt attention. Here are six forgotten places to childproof before your toddler begins to explore.

Windows
Unless you live in a cave or an underground bomb shelter, you more than likely have a few windows. These can be dangerous elements when you have curious little ones running around who want to watch the world outside their home. When little toddlers find their way to the window and see something that sparks their interest, it might mean a fall. In fact, more than 5000 kids fall from windows every year.
Your baby-proofing technique will depend upon the window type. You can use window guards, window stops, charley bars, and wedges to prevent the window from opening. It is also important to remove furniture that can be used as a ladder so your toddler cannot plan for a quick escape.

Bathroom for Bath Time
Babies outgrow their portable and folding infant baths very quickly. When promoted to the big bathtub, there many hazards to avoid. You might know to put away the soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and razors, but that is not all. Be sure to invest in a non-slip mat and don’t overlook the importance of a spout cover. Children love water and they are drawn to the spout where it comes out. One slip could mean they injure their head on the spout.

Access to the Toilet
Another water source that poses a hazard and is overlooked by many is the toilet. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the toilet is not only infested with bacteria, but can be an overlooked drowning hazard. One way to cut off access is to close the door to the bathroom at all times, lock it with a hook-and-eye lock.
You will also need to secure the lid so your toddler cannot open it when they figure out it can be lifted. Find a type of lid lock that is easy to install and is compatible with your toilet style.

Dishwasher

Kids pay attention to your every move. If it is your routine to unload the washer as they eat in their highchair, they may be intrigued once they get down. If they open the dishwasher right after is ends, there is a chance of steam burns. They will also have access to sharp knives and glass that can break and cause deep cuts if they get into a dishwasher. Be sure to point all sharp utensils down, put away the detergent in a locked cabinet, and never leave the dishwasher door unlocked.

Backyard
You never want to give your child free access to your driveway or the backyard where there is a whole new set of hazards. Just 30 seconds of putting away clothes can result in disaster if your child finds out how to open the door and run into the street. Over time, toddlers figure out how to open locked doors. When this happens, you can buy handle locks, knob locks, lock and pinch guards, and more. Another option is to always arm your home with a security alarm so it sounds whenever the door is opened. NorthStar alarm reviews say this system can also be controlled remotely so you can make sure doors are locked wherever you are.

Create a Closet
If you have guests who frequently come to visit, they could be carrying hazards with them. You know to lock up medicines and sharp items, but all of this could be easily accessed in a purse within reach. Be sure you have a place to put coats and bags so purses don’t become dangers.

No home will ever be 100% safe. You need to supervise your children, but you also need to prevent potential accidents with the right safeguards. Be sure you look at the obvious hazards and the not-so obvious ones so your child is as safe as can be in your home.
