We are so excited to be included in this giveaway that promises to bring the best of Wee Urban to the forefront.

We are giving away a lifetime supply of sleep bags… Meaning a 0-6, a 6-18 and an 18-36! You will never have to buy a sleep bag for your son or daughter if you’re lucky enough to win this prize. So you better enter, and enter now!

But if you’re stubborn, like myself, and need more incentive to spend your time wisely… I’ve put together a list and description of all the other brands participating. They. Are. Awesome.

nookNook

Well first, we need to highlight our hosts. Nook Sleep Systems are at the top of their class in terms of bedding for our little ones. They are so great, that I’ve asked them multiple times to make me a bed to nap on at work, unfortunately, my boss won’t allow it, and well… they’re a bit small! But they are perfect for your little one. Check out all the styles by clicking here.

Our favourite product is the Pebble Pure – Pacific, I’m partial to the colour, but every product from Nook is the same… AMAZING. So you can’t go wrong… However, we may have picked the Pacific colour because we may have a Pacific coloured sleep bag on the horizon… Who knows? Definitely not me.

AirflowGreyBlackOtherPic

Lillebaby

Another friend of ours from our home country, Lillebaby is an industry leader in Toddler Carriers. They blend amazing functionality and durability, with a unique and comfortable style that we have yet to see matched. Carrying the babes around isn’t the easiest thing in the world, wouldn’t you want all the help you could get? If the answer is yes, click here.

Our favourite product is the Airflow, because Devin sweats, a lot. If there’s a product that will allow me to be cool when I have another human attached to my body, I’m all for it.

puj

Puj

Keeping everything clean is tough. Puj… is there for you. Their slogan is “Simplifying Parenthood” and they’ve succeeded in doing so. Whether it’s bathtubs for the baby, towels for the toddler, or cups for the kids, Puj is there to make everything simple, and keep everything clean and tidy. Find out how here.

Our favourite product is the Puj Snug… Safety is imperative and this product stylishly covers up all bathtub taps at a very reasonable price. It is a truly amazing and innovative product.

infant-kickee-pantsKicKee Pants

Any essential that you need, KicKee Pants has it. Much like Wee Urban, they offer a wide variety of apparel that is stylish, comfortable and affordable. If your kid rocking some sweet style isn’t enough, there’s something there for the mama’s too! Check out their full line here.

Our favourite product is the Swaddling Blanket in Oasis Monkey because we honestly miss our monkey print, and we haven’t found something new to do with it… so we’re just glad someone else is showing some love to our primate friends.

Little Unicorn

This amazing brand has some of the sweetest modern style we’ve seen yet. They’ve taken some old school ideas and gave them new school flavour and it’s adorable, functional, sustainable and price conscious. It’s almost unbelievable how much we love Little Unicorn, almost unbelievable as a Unicorn… See what we did there?

Our favourite product is the Marindale Backpack, you can’t go wrong with this bag, from the style, to the comfort to the protective iPad pocket, it’s everything you need in a diaper bag that looks nothing like a diaper bag.

Natursutten

I mean if the animated website homepage doesn’t get you excited enough, our love for their products will. Three Words: Natural, Rubber, Pacifier. Every parent wants nothing more than peace of mind at all times when looking after their kids. With Natursutten, you no longer have to worry about the chemicals that are in your baby’s mouth, they are natural, organic, tried and tested.

Our favourite product is the Butterfly Pacifier, with a little more room for the nose which means there’s more room to breathe, the babes is less likely to reject the pacifier, unless we’re talking the Vin Diesel movie, then everyone should reject that…

boon_giveaway500

Boon

Universal Sippy Cups! Are you kidding? Where were these when I was a kid, man, I would’ve escaped so many awkward “carpet is now the colour of fruit punch” situations…. These are brilliant! Boon makes them responsibly, and they fit over most cups. Now If only they would make an adult version for a beer glass… hmm…

Our favourite product is the Suds bottle washer… Washing bottles can be a challenge if you don’t have the right tools. This is specifically designed to make it easier, what’s not to love?

logo

Fridababy

Fridababy is a leader in the industry of keeping your kids healthy and reducing the stress of when they are sick. From snotty noses to coughs and fevers Fridababy has a remedy, and they are inventive in how they get it done.

Our favourite product is the FeverFrida because not having to wake your kid to check their temperature is probably the coolest thing we’ve ever heard of. Using the power of Bluetooth (oh technology!) this product is able to check a baby’s temperature every four seconds via a small patch underneath their arm. It is amazing. Check it out.

Here’s the instagram links to every brand participating.

Alright folks, if you’ve made it all the way down here, you’re a champ, and you’re now educated on some of the best products out there. I’d give you a little bio about Wee Urban… but I think you know who we are, so then I’ll just say that we may, or may not, have a brand new line of dresses coming very soon, as well as new Cozy Basic prints and colours. Ahh, don’t you just love Spring?

Choosing unique and thoughtful shower gifts can be a challenge. You can help new parents out with these innovative and meaningful baby presents.

Pregnant With Your First? 5 Ways to Prepare

Giving birth is no easy task, hence the term “labor”. The expectant mother has most likely read tons of material for preparing for the birth of their first child, but sometimes a quick checklist is the most helpful way to get ready for this life-changing event. Preparing ahead will help you feel more confident and in control. These five ways to prepare for your first can do just that.

Follow a Schedule of Prenatal Visits

Make a doctor’s appointment with your OB-GYN or specialist as soon as you think you are pregnant. They will be able to confirm your pregnancy and check your health as you progress. Expect a schedule that begins with monthly check-ups and ends with weekly ones. The doctor will check the growth of the fetus and perform special tests that can detect problems like high -risk symptoms early. These visits are important to avoid any complications that may arise with your pregnancy. If you are having a high-risk pregnancy then visits with a maternal fetal specialist, like Dr. Gilbert Webb, are all the more important.

Pre-register and Practice Checking In

Most hospitals and birthing centers are more than happy to have expectant parents pre-register for the event. This allows them to take care of your paperwork and insurance matters in advance. It is a good time to also find out what you should do to have the new family member added to your health insurance policy. Ask for a tour of the birthing area and nursery. Ask about your options. Scope out parking and entrances. Pretend it is 3 a.m. and you have just arrived!

Stock up on Supplies

Cooking up a few meals for the freezer will save you and your family time and energy once baby is born. Heat-and-eat meals will allow you more time to rest and be with your baby. Don’t forget easy-to-grab non-perishable healthy snacks like granola bars and dried fruit.

This is also the time to decide whether you are going to breastfeed or put your baby on formula. If breastfeeding, purchase a couple of comfortable nursing bras and a breast pump. For formula feeding, get a case of formula and your choice of bottles. Disposable ones will make life easier in the beginning.

Stocking up on plenty of “incidentals” will cut down on errand-running after the baby arrives. Don’t forget maxi-pads, baby wipes, a gentle stool softener, and, of course, newborn diapers.

Recruiting Outside Help

Friends and family will be invaluable during those first few weeks of new parenthood. Now is the time to ask and recruit. Have a cleaning service come right before your due date. Bringing home the new baby to a clean and neat home will feel good. Enlist the cleaners on a temporary basis while you get established as a new mom. It may sound like splurging, but you will find that it’s worth it to save your own energy for being with the baby.

Planning Transportation

It’s never too soon to purchase and install a proper infant car seat. Hospitals won’t allow you to leave without one. If you must take a taxi, practice installing it in another car a few times. Make sure the car has gas, or if you are using a taxi service, decide on which one and have the number in a handy spot. Plan out the best route from home to hospital. Consider possible traffic jams at certain times of the day and any road construction that is in progress. Together with your partner, take a few practice runs.

Waking up at 2 a.m. with labor pains or having your water break while at work or lunch are not the times for packing your bag for a hospital stay. At least two weeks before your due date, pack up and put your bag in an easy-to-spot location. Pack a comfy gown and robe, slippers, and personal items you will need. Don’t forget a coming-home outfit for you and the baby.

These tips can help first-time mothers feel in control. And being in control can help you relax and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience,

6 Specialty Field Experts Every Family Should Have on their Contact List When Needed

ID-100286457

Another great guest blog from our friend Rachelle Wilber!

Life happens, and you want your family to be prepared. When unexpected problems arise, it is nice to know exactly who to call to help you. It’s important to build good relationships with people who will assist you with short term notice. But exactly what kind of experts do you need? Here is a list of six experts to get on your contact list before you need them.
Lawyer
You just never know when you might need legal representation from an attorney, like St. Louis criminal defense lawyer Richard Lzano. Lawyers can handle everything from creating a will to defending you if wrongly accused of a crime and just about anything in between. Go ahead and get a good lawyer on your contact list. Let them assist you with creating legal documents for your family and create a good rapport with them when you really need help.
Financial Planner
When you have an income, you may need help managing it. A financial planner will help you make the most of your money by helping you save for large expenditures, your children’s education, and even retirement. As your income grows, a financial planner will help you get the most out of your investments. They might even be willing to help you out come tax season. You might think that you could do all this yourself, but the US News advises a financial planner because they can see your situation in an objective and unemotional way, which will help them advise you accurately.
Party Planner
You may not be in the habit of throwing lavish gatherings, but most people will put together the occasional bridal shower or graduation party. Having a party planner on your contacts list will help you make sure these events go off without a hitch. You don’t have to spend a fortune hiring a party planner if you have one that you use every time. They’re likely to offer discounts.
Computer Expert
Just about everyone owns a computer these days, but not everyone knows how to run every program they need to or how to fix the system if it malfunctions. Keep a computer expert on your speed dial for when you have a presentation due, and your printer just won’t communicate with your printer.
Babysitter
If you have kids, then there will be times that you need a little help. You might not think a qualified babysitter is important, but it does happen that you will need care unexpectedly when your usual caregivers – mom, neighbor, etc. – just aren’t available. When this happens, you need someone you can trust to call and know your kids are in good hands. Same concept applies for animal care.
Handy Man
If you own your own home, then a reliable handy man (or woman) is a must have. Windows will break, appliances can stop working, and drains do clog. Your family needs someone they can call to take care of problems like this. You will be less worried about who is in your home if it is the same person every time. A good handy man, much like a maintenance person at an apartment complex, will be knowledgeable about large appliance repair, electrical wiring, plumbing, and some carpentry.

6 Awesome Organic Recipes

I firmly believe that’s best to choose an organic option whenever you can – from our products to our food. When it comes to our meals, we only have to make a few adjustments to eat healthy. Here are some of my favorite organic recipes.

1. Organic Potato Crust Quiche (Gluten Free & Grain Free) Recipe

Organic Potato Crust Quiche

Perfect for lunch or brunch, these personal-sized quiches are easy to heat up quick when you’re in a rush. Like most quiches, you can easily change out the ingredients to suit your prefernces.

2. Smoothie Kit Creations

Smoothie Kit Creations

Admittedly, smoothies can take a lot of work. Their signature feature (the plethora of ingredients) can take time to prepare if you’re making just one smoothie. This isn’t so much of a recipe as it’s a “hack.” By portioning out your smoothie ingredients at one time, you reduce your labor and you’ll be more inclined to drink your fruits and vegetables each morning. Pretty clever!

3. Sweet Potato Casserole (Grain Free, Paleo, Primal)

Sweet Potato Casserole

Sweet potatoes are common around this part of the year. If you’re from a southern home in the States, they’re an absolute staple. This organic recipe combines a creamy inside with a crunchy pecan topping.

4. Almond Butter Brownies

Almond Butter Brownies

Almond butter is basically the consistency and flavor of regular butter without all the calories. These brownies are just as chewy and delicious as those made with traditional butter.

5. Italian Orzo Spinach Soup

Italian Orzo Spinach Soup

Made with organic ingredients, soup is the perfect meal this time of year. It warms your belly and you can keep a lot of it on hand for guests.

6. Organic Pumpkin Cheesecake

Organic Pumpkin Cheesecake

Who doesn’t love cheesecake? A thin slice of cheesecake is a great compliment to some of the heavy meals we eat this time of year. This recipe creamy and full of amazing texture, but it’s not so sweet that it’s tough to enjoy.

Healthy Pregnancy: How to Adjust Your Diet for a Growing Baby

Healthy Pregnancy How to Adjust Your Diet for a Growing BabyEating healthy is important, but especially so during pregnancy. The food you eat will be used by your baby as they grow and develop. How can you be sure that you are eating healthy during a pregnancy? Here are some tips and ideas for how to stay in tip top form.

Make Each Calorie Count

During pregnancy, you’ll need to increase your calorie intake. However it’s important to increase your intake with healthy foods. Chips, candy, cake, and soda have a lot of calories, but lack vitamins, minerals and other nutrients you and your baby need. Think before you eat, and make up a calorie counter if it helps you stay on track.

Listen To Your Body

If you are craving meat or other iron rich foods, your body may be trying to tell you something. Within reason, you should pay attention to your cravings and make the necessary changes. Cravings can vary from woman to woman. Some women crave spicy foods while others are drawn to milk and cheese. While you don’t want to be a slave to your taste buds, give into what you want every now and then. It may be something your baby just needs more of.

Take A Multi-Vitamin

During pregnancy, it is important to take vitamins designed especially for pregnant women. These vitamins will contain nutrients like folic acid which has been shown to decrease the risk of certain types of birth defects. Some women find that prenatal vitamins cause nausea. If this is the case, a maternal care physician, Gilbert Webb suggests taking your prenatal vitamin just before bed.

Other Adjustments

Constipation is very common during pregnancy. Some women find they need to increase their intake of foods with fiber to alleviate the problem. Other women find that taking a dietary fiber supplement works better. In addition to increasing your intake of certain minerals and vitamins, you should also be careful to drink enough fluids. A pregnant woman should drink at least eight glasses of fluid per day.

Eat A Variety Of Foods

Try your best to eat a variety of foods during your pregnancy, including whole grains, low fat meat and cheeses, vegetables, and fruit. This may be very difficult during the first trimester when you may experience morning sickness. On the other hand, if your morning sickness is so severe that it affects your ability to get the nutrients you need, you should contact your doctor or local St Lukes hospital. In most cases, morning sickness will resolve itself during the first trimester.

If you have specific questions about eating healthy and adjusting your diet during your pregnancy, you may want to contact a nutritionist or your doctor.

The First Steps to Go Green

steps to go greenIt’s fantastic that you’ve decided to “go green.” Living eco-friendly means reducing your impact on the environment, eliminating waste, and building a healthier life for you and your family. I’m not advocating you live off in the land in the woods somewhere, eating bugs and making your own clothes from leaves, but in a world where our natural resources are shrinking and our air is becoming polluted, we all have to take some action to improve the situation. These steps are easy to implement, cost little or nothing, and can make the biggest impact. Here are your first steps to go green.

Eat organic and locally-grown foods.

Buying organic foods is as simple as checking the labels and signs at your grocery store or supermarket. Organic food is healthier and doesn’t come with harmful pesticides and toxins. Locally-grown food doesn’t require energy for transportation.

Cut out the chemicals.

Switch to products around your home without toxins or harmful substances. This will require some research on your part. You’ll have to evaluate the ingredients of each item before purchasing. This isn’t just about food; many household products (toys, furniture, flooring, appliances, etc.) and cleaners come riddled with chemicals.

Drink tap water.

30 billion plastic bottle are sold in the U.S. and Canada, and less than 20% get recycled into something useful. In many places in North America, tap water is completely safe and perfectly drinkable. If you aren’t satisfied with your tap water, spend a one-time cost of $100-200 for a top-of-the-line water filter. You could also refill water bottles so you maintain the convenience.

While we’re on the subject of water: reduce your waste! Our fresh water supply is diminishing. We pour too much water away while brushing our teeth or waiting for it to warm up.

Reduce your junk mail.

In a world where we’re bombarded with advertising, this task will be tougher than you think. Select the e-newsletter option whenever possible for mailers and catalogs. Sign up for paperless billing and notifications from your bank, credit card company, energy company, etc. When you come across a new piece of mail, take any steps listed to get your name off the list.

Conserve your transportation.

This is a good time to mention that going green isn’t an “all-or-nothing” lifestyle. You won’t be able to reduce your environmental impact entirely, but you can lessen it to a responsible level. In North America, it’s pretty much required that you have a car to get to work, home, and schools. Reduce how often you use your vehicle by biking, walking or carpooling wherever possible. When you do use your car, make sure it’s running tip-top so it uses fuel economically.

Reduce your energy usage.

Like transportation, this is a broad category where you should focus on eliminating energy usage over time rather than cutting it all out drastically. Energy is becoming harder and more costly to produce every year. Before you use something that requires power, or buy something that required power to make or get to you, consider if it’s really necessary. For example, an electric ice cream maker is a unique and fun product, but a hand-cranked one makes the same ice cream. If you’re really into the green movement, look into installing solar panels in your home – they recoup their investment faster than most people think.

Educate, educate, educate!

Begin a habit of keeping up to date on eco-friendly trends and methods. You could follow environmental blogs and news sites, read eco-living magazines, or connect with a local environmental group. Never stop learning. Pass your wisdom to your friends and family, without being preachy, of course – no one likes that!

5 Tips for Organic Grocery Shopping

organic grocery shoppingIf you are considering having your family eat organically, then you have probably already noticed that it is more expensive than regular food. That being said, there is a reason it cost more, because it is better for you! Organic food is worth paying extra for because the food is safer, more nutritious, and doesn’t have tons of chemicals! If you want to go organic, but are worried about the costs, know that there are ways to eat organic foods and stick to your budget! Here are five tips for organic grocery shopping:

1. Shop around

There are tons of places to buy organic foods, way more than just your local grocery store. If you are buying your organic food from the organic section of your grocery store, you are going to be paying more. Find out what other stores are in your area and see what kinds of organic foods they carry. Trader Joe’s is a great place to shop for organic foods, and I find that they can even be cheaper than my local grocery store!

2. Know where organic counts

Meats, dairy and sweet fruits are the most important products to buy organic. When making your grocery list keep this in mind. You don’t need to buy organic granola bars; the regular ones are just fine, and cheaper! If you are worried about spending a lot on organic food, just buy your meats, dairy and fruit from the organic section.

3. Buy in bulk

Since organic food is so expensive, it is wise to buy in bulk.  Many stores carry organic grains and cereal in large packages. Try to find as many non-perishable items as you can and buy them in bulk. In the long run you will end up saving money and trips to the grocery store.

4. Drink organic coffee and tea

Did you know that the coffee you are drinking every morning could have been grown and processed with harsh chemicals? Like other organic crops, organic coffee beans and tea are grown and processed without harsh chemicals or pesticides. Ensure that the next time you stock up on coffee beans, you buy organic ones.

5. Grow your own!

If you really want to make sure that your family is eating organically, grow it yourself! Fruits and veggies are easy to grow and taste the best when they are fresh! Not only will you be saving money by growing your own, but it is a great activity to do as a family. Grow a garden, save money, bond with your family, and go organic!
